A Taste of Nostalgia
Stepping into the Wakarusa Dime Store is like taking a step back in time. The shop is located in the former Wolfburg’s Department Store, founded in 1907. The store still has the original Wakarusa roll-top desk, and the floors are made of the same black and white tiles used when the department store was built.
Wakarusa Dime Store‘s distinctive saltwater taffy and gummy bears are famous, but the store’s Jumbo jelly beans, developed in 1969, are among the most iconic products. Grocery shoppers in the region and all over the world consume 75 tons of jelly beans each year.
Wakarusa Pro Hardware Store is a historical place of interest for anybody visiting Wakarusa. Housed in an 1890s building, it is a unique gallery of tools, with old wood floors, pressed tin ceilings, and over 1,000 wooden drawers. The store is closed on Sundays.
Yoder Brothers Antiques is a traditional antique store near the same block as South Elkhart Street. It offers an eclectic selection of goods, including vintage clothing, furniture, and more.

The archives of Wakarusa and Wakarusa Historical Society are rich in local lore and artifacts and bring the town’s past to life. Stroll through a blacksmith shop, a one-room schoolhouse, a fire station, and more. Call the Wakarusa Chamber of Commerce to reserve tours, which you can schedule in advance.
Wakarusa’s Memorial Butterfly Garden is a nature refuge for those who love to have close encounters with attractive cryptozoological species. Hundreds of musical butterflies flutter about the park, enchanting visitors with their delicate beauty.
