Serves Mishawaka Indiana
Mishawaka is a charming city in Indiana situated on the banks of the St. Joseph River. Mishawaka’s history is deeply rooted in the river, with the city’s early industry relying on the river for power and transportation.
These days, the Mishawaka Riverwalk is a beautiful way to experience the city and enjoy the views of the river. The University Park Mall is also a fun destination for shopping and dining.
STROLL DOWN THE RIVERWALK
Mishawaka is known for its Mishawaka Riverwalk, a scenic pedestrian and bicycle trail along the St. Joseph River. The Mishawaka Riverwalk is lit up at night, making it a beautiful place to walk or bike any time of day.
Mishawaka has two parks, Beutter Park and Battell Park, connected by a footbridge. If you’re looking for a peaceful place to relax and take in some nature, then this is is the perfect spot!
On Sundays during the summer months, you will want to check out the Mishawaka Farmers’ Market, which takes place on Sundays, 11 am to 3 pm, at Ironworks Plaza on the south bank.
The Mishawaka Riverwalk is a beautiful stretch of whitewater, perfect for fishing and kayaking. Central Park is an excellent place for families to visit in summer, with its splash pad and outdoor concerts on Thursday nights.
The Mishawaka Fish Ladder is a great spot for watching salmon and trout swim upriver.
SOLDIERS AT BATTELL PARK
Battell Park is a historic park that was established in 1881 and has been preserved as a Historic District. The park is home to two contributing monuments, the Soldiers’ War Memorial and an elegant bandshell. The park also features a five-tier cascading garden with several pools, an arched bridge, and a waterfall.
The St. Joseph River is the main attraction at Beutter Park. This park is perfect for a picnic, playing games, or relaxing by the water. The Riverwalk is also a great place to explore Mishawaka. This paved path runs along the river and is perfect for walking, running, or biking. There are also several restaurants and shops along the Riverwalk.
RIVER RACE AT BEUTTER PARK
If you’re looking for something more active, Beutter Park is also home to the River Race, a long race popular with water birds like ducks and geese. The race is bordered by a perennial garden, making it a beautiful place to watch the birds. The River Shards sculpture by Indianapolis artist Jan R. Martin is at the head of the race. This modern sculpture was installed in 2004 and is a beautiful addition to the park.
Another incredible great place to visit for its flourishing brewpub is Evil Czech. This pub offers innovative American comfort food and a range of craft beer to suit all tastes. The flagship beers at Evil Czech are General George Patton (Lager), Evil Czechmunk (IPA), Bigsby White Stout, Stalin’s Dark Side (Russian Imperial IPA), Jesús Mexican Lager, Static Chipmunk (Hazy IPA), Nefarious Harbor (New England IPA), Three Six Hoppia (IPA) and Voodoo (Porter). There’s also a window on the brewhouse so you can pair your beer with the pub’s unique takes on tacos, poutine, mac cheese, sandwiches, woodstone pizza, burgers, and much more. Mishawaka is a great place to visit for food and beer lovers alike!
BEAUTIFUL JAPANESE GARDENS
Mishawaka is known for its sister city relationship with Shiojiri in Nagano Prefecture, Japan. The Garden Bridge links the two cities, representing the connection between this world and paradise. Mishawaka is also home to one of Indiana’s few Japanese-style gardens, Shiojiri Niwa. Shoji Kanaoka, landscape architect at Disney World’s Epcot Center, designed this authentic strolling garden.
Visitors to Mishawaka can enjoy plenty of symbolism and beauty in this unique garden setting. Legend describes the Garden Bridge as a bridge between the world and paradise, while the zig-zag bridge is rumored to enable those who cross it to overcome evil spirits.
The extension of Shiojiri Niwa’s garden is strewn with over 200 rugged boulders. The majority of the stones are arranged in bizarre numbers like the tendency that arctic boulders often have. The area’s unnatural components correspond with the irregularity of such boulders.

Things to do around Mishawaka
Mishawaka is a trip hotspot ideal for its many fine attractions and the convenience of getting here from one spot. This is entirely so for the crisscrossing Mishawaka walkways, which harness the beautiful scene of the St. Joseph River. The decent economy of Mishawaka has attracted meanwhile and has likewise facilitated the growth, development, and influence of plans in the area.
Mishawaka Riverwalk
The long St. Joseph River runs through Mishawaka in a gentle flow for several miles past a bridge outside of the downtown area, arriving in the southeast of the city. The bicycle trail that runs along the river on the north side of the river loops alongside the Mishawaka Dam on the east side of Mishawaka and the S Logan St. bridge on the west side.
Central Park
With the park on the Mishawaka Riverwalk, a bridge stands in the water in line with the dam, creating a stretch of whitewater known as Central Park. You can see the Mishawaka Fish Ladder, a gateway, and a river fish and salmon hatchery. The park is a favorite spot for kids and a relaxing oasis for summertime residents, chiefly for its splash pad. A summer concert series is held Thursday evenings at the modern bandstand.
In addition to Central Park taking full advantage of a playground, lighted tennis courts, children’s playgrounds, lighted basketball courts, five pavilions, and tables and grills are available.
Battell Park
Another delightful waterfront park connected to The Riverwalk is a little further from Central Park. Battell Park was built decades earlier and remained protected as a Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places. The two main contributing elements are the Soldiers War Memorial (1884) and an attractive, copper-sheathed bandshell in the Classical Revival style, completed in 1927.
Shiojiri Niwa
Next to Merrifield Park, not far from Indiana s riverbank, is one of the country s few Japanese-style gardens. 1987, Shiojiri Niwa, Indiana’s adoptive sister city in Nagano Prefecture, was dedicated. Dating to its days as Disney World’s Epcot Center., the garden was designed to be a Japanese-style park with numerous attractions, including a teahouse pavilion.
Many different symbols inhabit Shiojiri Niwa. The Garden Bridge is symbolic of distance, like in the story that says paper dolls can escape the immortal spirit of the demons by crossing the bridge. The garden has unleashed 200 boulders, some of which appear weathered to give the impression that they have been in the garden for a long time.
Rocks are most frequently grouped into odd numbers, which is often interpreted as a way of contrasting the manmade features of the garden with the natural irregularity of rocks.
